ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH

Come & See, Serve & Grow

WELCA

What is WELCA? It's an easy way to say Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

WELCA's mission is to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.

WELCA's purpose
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm out gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

At St. John our WELCA group is active in sharing the love of Jesus by sewing blankets, knitting/crocheting hats and scarves, preparing meals for bereaved families following a funeral service, and so much more!

Piecemakers

Picture
Part of the WELCA group, many of members of St. John and friends of St. John get together on Tuesday afternoons to piece together and sew blankets for those around the world who need a warm embrace. In 2015, this group made a total of 205 quilts and most of those quilts were shipped out by Lutheran World Relief to various parts of the world. St. John's quilts can be found around the globe...perfect example of sharing the love of Jesus!  Consider spending Tuesday afternoon with the Piecemakers.  No skills required...if you can tie your shoes or use scissors, then you can tie knots on the blankets or cut squares!

Glorious Hooks and Needles

And not to be outdone by the Piecemakers, our members who love to knit and crochet make many blankets, mittens, scarves, and hats for those in need as well throughout the year.  St John has many younger folks learning these special skills as well! All are welcome to come to learn how to knit and crochet on Wednesday evenings!
