St. John Windfall wanted to continue the vision of our forefathers and enhance the Church and its mission further, by updating and improving our facilities. Thus, after much prayer and consultation, we embarked on a three-year campaign to undertake improvements needed to provide for current and future ministries.
The Growing Together 2017 capital campaign was launched on July 9, 2017 to raise funds and awareness for sanctuary improvements, new restrooms, new windows, administrative and education re-work, and a kitchen addition. Pledge cards were due on September 9th, and we held our Celebration Sunday on September 10th. Thanks to the generosity of your pledges, St. John will be able to secure a loan for $400,000.
Pastor and Elders recently met with the architect to discuss next steps. In the home gatherings, Pastor discussed the financial need of $700,000 for phase one and what would occur if the congregation was unable to reach this goal. Based on the pledges received, the team and the architect determined a reconciliation of phase one with a smaller budget. The priorities within this reconciliation remain aligned with the original congregational survey conducted by the study committee: new restrooms, kitchen/fellowship hall, and new windows through the building. Pastor and elders authorized the architect to proceed to the next step.
In recent months, the church council has been working with the architect and other design firms to put the finishing touches on the plans and specifications for the renovations to the kitchen, fellowship hall and narthex. There have been a few bumps on the roach which have delayed the project, but we are on track to break ground in the Spring. On Sept 26, a walk-through was conducted with contractors bidding on the project. Their bids are due October 22, Council will review the bids. In the meantime, we are researching our financing options and identifying costs for appliances.
Below you will see the latest schematic drawings prepared by the architect. Please keep the mission of St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall) and the capital campaign to further this mission in your prayers.
